Not sure if your face is oval, round, square or something in between? Our face shape detector is built for that one question: what is my face shape? Add a front-facing selfie, pick the full or mini plan, and take your place in the early-access queue. While you wait, the guide below explains the seven common face shapes and a simple mirror method you can try today.

How our face shape detector works

  1. Choose a selfie. Pick a clear, front-facing photo. It is shown only as a preview inside your browser and is never uploaded to our servers.
  2. Pick a plan. The full plan ($17.49) is meant to cover your face shape, key proportions and hairstyle ideas. The mini plan ($7.49) covers your face shape and a short summary. No card is asked for at this step.
  3. Join the queue. Early access opens in small batches, so you join a waiting line. The face shape detector is not open yet, and we will not pretend otherwise.

What is my face shape? The 7 common face shapes

Most faces fall into one of seven shapes, the same seven our face shape detector is built around. Very few faces are a perfect match, so look for the closest one.

  • Oval: face length is about one and a half times the width. The forehead is slightly wider than the jaw, and the chin is softly rounded.
  • Round: length and width are close to equal. Cheekbones are the widest part, and the jawline curves with no sharp angles.
  • Square: forehead, cheekbones and jaw are about the same width. The jaw is strong and angular, and the face is not much longer than it is wide.
  • Rectangle (oblong): like a square face but clearly longer, with straight sides and a tall forehead.
  • Heart: a wide forehead and cheekbones narrowing to a smaller, often pointed chin. Many heart faces also have a widow's peak.
  • Diamond: high, wide cheekbones with a narrower forehead and jaw. The chin is usually narrow and defined.
  • Triangle (pear): the jaw is the widest part and the forehead is the narrowest.

How to find my face shape with a mirror test

You can do a basic face shape test at home with a soft tape measure and a mirror. Pull your hair back and take four measurements:

  1. Forehead: across the widest point, roughly halfway between eyebrows and hairline.
  2. Cheekbones: across the top of the cheekbones, just below the outer corners of the eyes.
  3. Jawline: from the tip of the chin to the point below the ear, then double it.
  4. Face length: from the center of the hairline down to the tip of the chin.

Then compare. If length is clearly the largest number and the top of the face is a little wider than the bottom, you are likely oval. If length and cheekbone width are close, think round or square, and let the jaw decide: curved means round, angular means square. A wide forehead over a narrow chin points to heart; wide cheekbones with a narrow forehead and jaw point to diamond.

A tape measure works, but it is easy to get a different answer each time. That is why people look for a face shape analyzer that reads the same photo the same way every time. Our face shape detector is designed around that idea.

Selfie tips for our face shape detector

A good photo helps any face shape detector, and any person, read your proportions.

  • Face the camera straight on, with the phone at eye level.
  • Pull your hair away from your face.
  • Use even, soft light. Strong side shadows can make features look sharper than they are.
  • Keep a neutral expression. A big smile widens the cheeks.
  • Take off glasses and hats.
  • Hold the phone at arm's length or more. Close-up wide lenses stretch the middle of the face.

Hairstyles and your face shape

Your face shape is a starting point for choosing a haircut, not a rule. The common idea is balance: add width where a face is narrow and height or length where it is short. Round faces often suit length and volume on top; square faces suit soft layers that ease the angles; long faces suit fringes and width at the sides. The full plan is meant to include hairstyle ideas matched to the shape the face shape detector finds.

Your selfie stays on your device

Privacy matters when you share a face. When you use the face shape detector in this early-access version, the photo you choose is only previewed in your own browser. It is not uploaded, stored or shared, and you do not need an account or an email to join the queue. We count visits and queue entries with standard analytics so we know how many people want the report.

Face shape detector FAQ

What is my face shape if I match two shapes?

That is common. Many faces are a blend, such as oval-heart or round-square. Pick the shape that matches your widest point best, and use the second one as a guide.

Is this face shape detector ready to use now?

Not yet. Right now you can add a selfie, choose a plan and join the early-access queue. Early access opens in small batches, and this page does not show a face shape for you today.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Your selfie is only previewed in your browser. It is not sent to our servers or stored.

What is the difference between the full and mini report?

The full report ($17.49) is planned to cover your face shape, key proportions and hairstyle ideas. The mini report ($7.49) is planned to cover your face shape and a short summary. Choosing a plan does not charge you.

Why is there a queue for the face shape detector?

We are opening the face shape detector to a small number of people at a time, so we can see how many want the report before opening it widely. Joining the queue is how you show interest.

Can I find my face shape without a photo?

Yes. Use the mirror test above: measure your forehead, cheekbones, jawline and face length with a soft tape, then compare the numbers with the seven face shapes.

How is a face shape analyzer different from a face shape test?

A face shape test usually means measuring yourself or answering a few questions. A face shape analyzer works from a photo of your face. Both aim to answer the same question; a photo-based tool simply avoids measuring by hand.
